A bit about us

who we are

Mud and Moonshine is a one-woman show based on Vancouver Island, committed to creating finely crafted art to inspire peace, magick and kindness in your daily life.   Why keep art only on your walls and stashed away in china cabinets?  Art should permeate our days, and be integrated into daily use.  I want a mug that gets me outta bed in the morning and makes my souls feel full – a cup of coffee that is literally  like “hell ya, babe, it’s going to be a good day!”…(Okay, more like metaphorically, but you get it).   My pottery is designed to be beautiful pieces of art that are fully functional, and ready for every day use.  Mud and MoonShine is entirely handcrafted by me, Jen Thorndale, a self-taught artist who aims to bring soul and life into my works, while promoting kindness, peace, female empowerment and empathy. Learn more about Mud and MoonShine’s philosophy  here .

*Mud and MoonShine is located on the unceded traditional territories of the Lekwungen and W_SÁNEC peoples. I would like to acknowledge my immense gratitude for being able live and practice my art in such a majestic and beautiful land.

More about the artist

Artist and potter Jen Thorndale of Mud and MoonShine ceramics

Hi lovelies!

I’m Jen, the face behind it all at Mud and Moonshine.  I live on the glorious west cost of Canada with my partner and sweet-as-sin pup, Muwin.

I’ve always loved art – drawing, painting and sculpting, but it wasn’t until I took a pottery class at a local rec center in 2014 that I found a cohesive way to bring all of my passions together into one art form.  I’ve been playing with clay ever since.

I started Mud and Moonshine in 2018, after my mom and partner colluded to get me an old beasty pottery wheel off of craigslist.  It was heavy and clunky, but goodness did I love it.  Then, things kicked things into high gear when my partner Preston surprised me with a brand new shiny Shimpo wheel for my b-day (find you a partner who supports your dreams).  I never imagined I’d have my own little pottery business, but here I am, creating magick right out of my home and seeing it being adopted into loving homes all across North America.  It makes me SO happy to bring new things into the world and share it with you kind, gorgeous, magical souls!

Mud and MoonShine is my love child, but I also have a full time day job working at a center for adults with disabilities.  I have a 4 year  bachelor’s degree in psychology and have spent over a decade working with individuals with disabilities and mental health issues.  I love what I do!  I also teach dance a couple of nights a week, and dance myself, a whole heck of a lot.   It’s fun, but busy is an understatement 😛

Thanks SO much for being here, supporting me, and following along as I chase these dreams!!
